For anyone who has had a loved one with Alzheimer's disease or other memory loss, the reason for our work is obvious: The onset of memory loss is devastating for the patient and heartbreaking for their family and friends who are powerless to do anything but watch as the patient declines; clinically proven tools and methods for helping these patients are sorely lacking.
Add to this the staggering cost of care for a patient in a senior facility with memory care — about $3,000 per month. Any tool that can reduce that cost or extend the time before a family member needs to leave us is worth investing in.
In late 2016, Sanchoy Gupta, fueled by his passion for innovation and a resolve to tackle this problem, called his friend, data scientist Rodrigo Aldecoa. Together they formed the idea of using artificial intelligence to bridge the latest cognitive research and the needs of everyday people suffering from memory loss. BlipIQ was born.
Raised in a family of doctors going back 70 years, Sanchoy developed an extensive network of those in the medical field. From this network he enlisted the help of some of the world's leading specialists, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, neurosientists, and neuro-psychiatrists. Using this team's wealth of knowledge, Sanchoy and Rodrigo began developing an extremely advanced application to help memory-loss patients and their circle of family and friends share memories, using machine learning to create a personalized "memory lane" unique to each patient.
The benefits this technology can have on a patient are profound — more frequent engagement with family members, the joy of reliving the happiest times of their lives, and possibly even improved ability to recall events.
BlipIQ has the potential to help anyone suffering from cognitive impairment, as well as their circle of caregivers, family members, and friends. Specific groups who may benefit most from this tool include:
